Prices checked October 2026.

These 6 V8 AMG cars, from sedans to a roadster and a convertible, all sold on Bring a Trailer or Cars and Bids for under $40,000. We give a range only where we found at least 3 sales of the same year and trim, and we list single sales as single sales. A cheap AMG with no records can cost more than a good one, so ask for service history and have an AMG specialist inspect the car before you pay a deposit.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG sedan

Price check: 2 C63 sedans from 2012 sold this year. One with 115,000 miles sold on Bring a Trailer for $13,000 in March 2026. One with 81,800 miles sold on Cars and Bids for $29,250 in April 2026. For comparison, 2013 sedans sold on Bring a Trailer for $34,000 and $35,000.

The C63 uses the M156, a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 that FCP Euro lists in the 2008 to 2015 C63. All of the 2012 and 2013 sedans above had the 7-speed automatic.

  • Ask about the head bolts. FCP Euro says most M156 cars up to model year 2012 have cylinder head bolts that can break and let coolant into the combustion chamber. Warning signs include a low coolant light, misfires and a check engine light. FCP Euro gives engine serial number 60-060658 as the cutoff for the revised bolts. FCP Euro M156 guide.
  • Ask about the camshafts. The same guide says most M156 camshafts show wear around 100,000 miles, mostly on the intake cams, and a worn lobe can eat through the hydraulic lifter. Records of a cam inspection or oil analysis help. FCP Euro M156 guide.

2010 to 2011 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG sedan

Price check: Bring a Trailer sold 6 E63 sedans from 2010 and 2011 between December 2025 and August 2026, for $15,558 to $25,000. The low sale was a 2011 with 119,000 miles. The high sale was a 2010 with 61,000 miles. The others sold for $23,000, $24,250, $24,500 and $24,750.

FCP Euro lists the 2007 to 2011 E63 with the same M156 V8, so these sedans share the C63's head bolt and camshaft checks.

  • Check for oil leaks. FCP Euro says the most common M156 leaks come from the valve cover gaskets, camshaft solenoid cover gaskets and oil filter housing gaskets, and that left alone they damage parts such as the alternator and drive belt. FCP Euro M156 guide.
  • Ask about the crankcase breather valve. FCP Euro gives about 60,000 miles as a general replacement interval. A failing valve can cause oil burning, misfires and heavy smoke. FCP Euro M156 guide.

2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG

Price check: 2 CLS63s from 2007 sold in the past 2 years. One with 57,000 miles sold on Bring a Trailer for $14,000 in April 2025. One with 86,100 miles sold on Cars and Bids for $13,700 in January 2026. Bring a Trailer also sold 5 CLS63s from 2008 and 2009 in 2025, for $8,400 to $14,500: $8,400, $8,500, $10,099, $12,250 and $14,500.

The CLS63 has the M156 V8 too, so check the head bolts and camshafts as on the C63.

  • Check the air suspension. FCP Euro lists the 2007 to 2011 CLS63 among cars with AIRMATIC air suspension. It calls the air spring the most common AIRMATIC failure, at around 115,000 miles, and says that if one side sits lower than the other, a faulty air spring is the likely cause. FCP Euro AIRMATIC guide.
  • Listen when the car rises. The same guide says the air struts' bladders begin to fail around 105,000 miles, and a hiss after the suspension starts to rise is the sign. FCP Euro AIRMATIC guide.

2005 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG sedan

Price check: Bring a Trailer sold 5 E55 sedans from 2005 between December 2025 and October 2026, for $13,000 to $28,000. The low sale had 129,000 miles. The high sale had 80,000 miles. The others sold for $17,000, $18,500 and $23,250.

The E55 uses the supercharged 5.4-liter M113K V8 with a 5-speed automatic.

  • Ask about the brakes. The 2003 to 2006 W211 E-Class uses Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC), an electro-hydraulic brake system. Mercedes recalled 2003 to 2005 E-Class cars with SBC because a loose ground wire could put the brakes into backup mode, which needs more pedal pressure and travel. Confirm the recall was done and ask about SBC pump history. Mercedes-Benz recall letter.
  • Check the air suspension. FCP Euro lists the 2003 to 2006 E55 with AIRMATIC and calls the rear air springs the most common AIRMATIC failure on the W211. FCP Euro AIRMATIC guide.

2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG

Price check: Bring a Trailer sold 4 SLK55s from 2006 between March and October 2026, for $11,250 to $23,599. The low sale was a 131,000-mile car. The high sale was a 19,000-mile car. The others sold for $17,500 and $22,000.

The SLK55 pairs a 5.4-liter M113 V8 with a 7-speed automatic and a retractable hardtop.

  • Look for oil leaks. FCP Euro's M113 leak guide says the valve cover gasket and valve cover bellows can leak after years of hot and cold cycles. FCP Euro oil leak guide.
  • Ask when the plugs were done. FCP Euro notes the M113 uses 2 spark plugs per cylinder, which makes ignition service cost more, and says many later owners skip that service. FCP Euro on the M113.

2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG Cabriolet

Price check: Bring a Trailer sold 5 CLK55 Cabriolets from 2005 between January 2025 and October 2026, for $4,850 to $15,000. The low sale had 143,000 miles. The high sale had 57,000 miles. The others sold for $6,555, $8,000 and $13,800.

The CLK55 Cabriolet has a 5.4-liter V8, a 5-speed automatic and a power-operated soft top.

  • Cycle the top all the way open and closed. FCP Euro lists a convertible top hydraulic cylinder that fits the CLK55 AMG and gives the failure signs: slow or uneven top movement, hydraulic fluid around the cylinder or inside the cabin or trunk, and a top that will not move. FCP Euro top cylinder page.
  • Look for oil leaks at the valve covers. The CLK55's V8 is an M113 (FCP Euro's fitment list shows engine code 113.987), and FCP Euro's M113 leak guide covers the valve cover gasket and bellows. FCP Euro oil leak guide.

How we picked

Every car here has an AMG V8 and sold at auction for under $40,000 in 2025 or 2026. We used completed sales we opened on Bring a Trailer and Cars and Bids, Mercedes-Benz recall documents and FCP Euro's model and engine guides. Prices move with mileage and records, so compare any car you find with the sales linked above, run the VIN for open recalls and pay for a specialist inspection.
